Lighting technologies throughout the years have increased its purpose from mere lighting and illumination to a sophisticated communication and signaling device. It is the task of the civilian traffic to give the right of way and it is the responsibility of the police to use the police light only when it is very necessary. It is something of an unspoken rule that has to be followed and it makes police work much more efficient for fast action and quick response.
Police lights are series of high-powered illuminating devices that could either be of a singular form or a more popular type, which is the light bar. These flashing lights are turned on only when there is an emergency and the lights are used to get right of way. It signals the other road users to give way to the police car to get into the scene of the crime, to pursue a runaway hooligan or to halt a traffic offender. Police lights are extremely instrumental to let the people know the situation and to make them cooperate by going to the side or stopping when asked.
Usually when they get the information of the perpetuation of a crime, the police arrive at the scene in what is generally known as code3 response, which refers to a response with active police strobe light and sirens. This active mode helps the police to find their way faster to the crime scene by clearing traffic. It also helps them to give advance information to the people waiting for help at the crime scene.
